May 1st through October 31st is sea turtle nesting season on Estero Island. Walking along the beach at night with flashlights and any source of artificial lighting that illuminates the beach is prohibited by state law and local ordinance. It is unlawful to disturb any sea turtle nest, turtle or hatchling. With the exception of emergency and public service vehicles, permitted local beach vendors, and permitted beach cleaning vendors, motorized vehicles are not allowed anywhere on the beach or dunes. Dogs on the beach must be on a leash and under the owner’s control at all times. Owners must clean up after their animals and deposit animal waste in the trash receptacles located at each public beach access. Dogs are not permitted in the Little Estero Critical Wildlife Area, which includes all wetlands, beaches and land extending southward from the Holiday Inn to the boundary signs at Mulholland Point. Camping or sleeping overnight on a beach, a dune, or in the water adjacent to a beach is prohibited. Open fires are prohibited on the beach and Little Estero Critical Wildlife Area. Permits may be applied for through Town Hall for small cooking fires (12” x 12”) on the beach, excluding Little Estero Critical Wildlife Area, from November 1st through April 30th of each year, at Town Hall, 2523 Estero Boulevard.
