Charleston - James Island

An Island off of Charleston 

James Island is a barrier island just south of Charleston. It is off the coast of Charleston Harbor and is six miles from Folly Beach. James Island has a lot of inland marshes and is known for its magnificent trees, so much so that trees over a specific diameter are protected. 

A Family-Friendly Community

There is so much to do for families on James Island! Folly Beach is about 20 minutes away and has beautiful beaches, surfing classes, charter fishing, and so much more! Even staying on the island, there are lots of activities for families. On the first Friday of every month, the town has a Town Hall Market with vendors, food trucks, and music. It’s a great time to unwind with your family. 

Foodie Paradise

James Island has a vibrant culinary scene, with several restaurants and cafes. There are also several breweries and distilleries that offer tours and tastings. If you’re looking for some nightlife, go to the Charleston Pour House! With live music, drink specials, and Asian cuisine, it’s a perfect night out. 

For a more relaxed meal, head over to Edison James Island, right in the heart of the city. Edison has seasonal menus with local ingredients and an extensive wine list. With an ever-changing menu, you’ll have to go to their website to see what’s on special. 

Essentials

If you find yourself in need of a hospital or airport, you’ll have to make a short trip to Charleston. Roper Hospital is five miles north of James Island for any medical needs. Charleston International Airport is approximately 25 minutes away for all your travel needs.
