This peninsula of Charleston does not have actual beaches on it. However, it offers a variety of bars and restaurants overlooking the water. If you are looking for quick access to public beaches, you're in luck! There are five beaches, all within a 30-minute drive of downtown. Kiawah Island, Folly Beach, Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms, and Seabrook Island offer their own unique getaway from the busyness of Charleston. 

Each beach gives you a different experience. Seabrook Island is a private community that is very laid back. Kiawah Island is known for its gorgeous fairways, while Folly Beach has a lot of surfing opportunities.

While you're out, be sure to visit the Charleston City Market. This historic market is home to over 300 vendors selling everything from handmade crafts to Gullah sweetgrass baskets. You can also sample local food and drinks, like boiled peanuts and sweet tea. The City Market is a must-visit for anyone who loves shopping and local culture.

If you're more interested in the city's history, explore the Battery and Waterfront Park. The Battery is a historic seawall and promenade that offers stunning views of Charleston Harbor and Fort Sumter. Nearby, Waterfront Park is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery, with a large fountain, swings, and a pier. You can also take a harbor tour from the nearby docks to see the city differently.

The closest airport to downtown Charleston is Charleston International Airport which is approximately 12 miles northwest. The Medical University of South Carolina is the closest hospital. It features an academic health system, all different types of care, and a wellness center.
