Pawleys Island has often been noted to be one of the best beach towns in South Carolina. So much so that it was featured in Southern Living in 2021, noted for its lack of commercialism, and declared a "Favorite Southern Beach Town."

Best of Both Worlds

Pawleys Island has three miles of beaches with lots of public access. Residents and visitors can swim, sunbathe, surf, and fish on the beach. Pawleys Island is known for its fishing, crabbing, and shrimping. Visitors can charter boats for deep-sea fishing. One of those is Frank's Restaurant and Bar, that's been on Pawleys Island for over 30 years.

However, on the other side of the island, you can visit the salt marshes and rent kayaks or canoes to explore them. This is where residents go crabbing and view wildlife like egrets, herons, and more. The wetlands offer a peaceful environment of the natural wonders of South Carolina's coast ecosystem.

Important necessities like hospitals and airports are within 25 minutes of the island. For travel, you can visit Myrtle Beach International Airport, and for any medical emergencies, you can head to Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, which is 10 miles north of Pawleys Island.
